ERAS Application

Picture
We outline below some very important aspects to consider as you, an IMG, complete the ERAS application. This is based on our panel's experience with hundreds of IMG applicants over past few years.

The Dos of the ERAS application.

. Complete the whole ERAS form, do not leave empty spaces.
2. Make a list of all your past research Observership and Electives and note them down making sure you’re not missing anything.
3. Average work hours will vary, keep it within a “guess approximation” don’t over exaggerate the duration. Remember you can also mention over a duration of two months
4. Some Program recommends listing 15 important experiences. This is true for AMG but for an IMG its advisable to list every experience you have ever had; however old it has been.
5. For older IMG with home residency Emphasis on different experiences, you have had during your home residency will be key to your application.
6. Keep your description limited. (the aim is to get the message forward but not overwhelm the reader with extra information).
7. No grammatical errors.
8. Expect your interview to be based on the ERAS application.
9. Your hobbies are important- Don’t just mention any fancy hobby which you have no idea about (Hobbies are ICE-Breakers during your interview be true as it will reflect your personality).
10. Publications: Mention every indexed and non-indexed publication.
11. Research: Be brief about your research and discuss prior with your Research coordinator to what you are permitted to disclose on the ERAS application.

Don’ts for the Eras application

1. No plagiarism, it’s easy to tell it apart and this can have a big impact on your final match, program directors review 100’s of application’s and can easily see the similarities.
2. There will be gaps in the application, fill it sensibly by explaining what you have been doing during this time.
3. Don’t try to be too wordy. Remember you are not being hired for a post of a Journalist, it should be simple and to the point – you want the message to be put forward, Program directors don’t have time to read a long story unless its something that is of their interest.
Have your application reviewed prior to submitting with someone who has a vast experience with the ERAS application and the residency match process.
