HEALTH POLICY/ ANALYTICS INTERN

Time Commitment: ~40 hours/week

About the project
We are working to eliminate surprise medical bills and empower smarter decisions at the point of care. Our AI-powered platform delivers real-time cost estimates for patients based on their diagnosis and insurance plan — transforming how physicians, hospitals, and patients navigate treatment and billing.
To help align our product with evolving U.S. health policy and payer-provider models, we’re looking for a motivated, policy-savvy intern to join our summer cohort.

What You’ll Do:

• Analyze federal and state-level healthcare cost transparency regulations (e.g., CMS, No Surprises Act, price disclosure rules)
• Translate payer-provider contract structures and public insurance plans (e.g., ACA/Marketplace) into structured formats usable by data and ML teams
• Benchmark public-facing cost estimation tools (CMS, insurers, EHRs) for usability, accuracy, and gaps
• Identify government partnership or data access opportunities (e.g., CMS APIs, public health exchanges)
• Support development of the product’s policy compliance framework (HIPAA, ACA, etc.)

Ideal Profile:

• Master’s student in Health Policy, Public Health, Health Informatics, Health Economics, or related field
• Familiar with healthcare insurance terms, coding (CPT, ICD), and claims processes
• Strong understanding of the U.S. regulatory environment (especially transparency mandates)
• Comfortable working with structured/unstructured health documents and summarizing findings
• Self-starter with excellent research, writing, and synthesis skills

Expected Outputs:

• Healthcare policy brief and compliance checklist for product design
• Structured taxonomy of benefit/coverage terminology across ACA plans
• Regulatory benchmarking report (CMS, private insurer tools, competitors)
• Recommended data access and pilot partnership opportunities
• Strategic memo: “How AI cost estimation platforms can align with CMS goals”
