Research for USMLE match

Research course

This research course is led by clinical researchers and physicians affiliated with Hackensack University Medical Center & Hoboken University Medical Center.
Medicine is both an art and a science. While clinical experience teaches you the art of medicine, research is the backbone of the science of medicine. Applicants trained abroad often do not have the opportunity, tools or guidance to learn how to appraise research articles or conduct a research project, let alone successfully publish or present original research. Demonstrated research experience is becoming increasingly critical in determining a successful match for IMGs and Caribbean applicants. US research experience with documented outcomes (publications, manuscripts) gives you a distinct advantage.

This is where USMLEsarthi comes in!!

Our team is now offering you the exciting opportunity to do real research! You will get hands-on experience in the steps involved in conducting meaningful clinical research, with the opportunity to publish in PubMed, Scopus (& others) indexed journals, impact factor journals; as well as abstract manuscripts to be published and then presented at international medical conferences
Course overview
The research course is being offered by clinical researchers and physicians affiliated with Hackensack University Medical Center & Hoboken University Medical Center.

The course has two components:
1st component: will be online teaching which will include various lectures/interactive sessions

2nd component: will give you an opportunity to contribute to two research projects per applicant. These are two type of papers- Either full manuscripts ((large Retrospective study and/or Meta-analysis/systematic review) OR posters/abstracts. Enrollees will be divided in a group of 7-12 for a particular research topic. These articles will each be published as an original abstract in a societal journal. Also, if accepted they will be given the opportunity to be presented as a poster at a large international medical conference. These articles can be included in ERAS applications under the publication section as submitted or accepted depending on when you are applying. They also can be listed in the poster presentation section if accepted.

Course Duration and timeline
There are two separate courses that are being offered- both start in Mid May (May 16 and May 19)
1. Course leading to authorship in 2 posters for conferences/abstracts ($899)
2. Course which will let you contribute to two research projects (large Retrospective study and/or Meta-analysis/systematic review) for applicant. These are manuscripts ($1,599).

It will take About 4 to 6 weeks including analysis, write up and submission of manuscript/abstract. This does not include the time the conferences/journal may take to accept and publish (2 months or more).
Note:
For the Mid 2022 start, we are targeting submission by July 2022 and applicants will be able to include these articles in ERAS application as submitted/accepted/published -depending on the status.

What is the difference between the two courses?
  1. Full-length manuscripts differ from abstract poster presentations in the sense that they represent the entire clinical work and are indexed in Pubmed upon publication. For residency program directors/faculty, it means the ability to follow a project all the way through until full length publication is achieved. Also, for fellowships after residency, full-length manuscripts tend to impress them.
  2. In the original manuscript course, students will have a more in depth understanding on data collection/analysis and how to frame one's research question to be clinically relevant.

Course Prerequisites
No prior research experience is necessary.
Course fee
There are two types of courses and the fee is different. You can enroll in either of the two
1. Course leading to authorship in two posters for conferences/abstracts ($899)
2. Course which will let you contribute to two research manuscripts (large Retrospective study and/or Meta-analysis/systematic review) for applicant ($1,599).

You can pay in two installments. Payments made by credit/debit card will incur additional 3% fee. You can also by check, if you have an account with any bank in the US. This will not incur the 3% additional fee. To pay by check send us an email contact@usmlesarthi.com and we can send details.
