Internal Medicine, Residency Match: A Simple (But Complete) Guide

Picture

USMLE is globally famous for its ‘tough’ and ‘diverse’ steps one has to climb to pursue a medical residency in the US. This entire notion makes the exam process more complicated than it actually is. That’s where we, USMLE Sarthi, your exam guide and coach come in.

Blanka, one of our students who made it through the USMLE screenings despite the hindering attributes to her profile, including an older year of graduation along with low Steps score is yet another Sarthi success story of defying the odds.

Residency Match Application: Cycle 1
Blanka’s first application for USMLE went out in 2019. Although she did not match, this cycle surfaced the shortcomings in Blanka’s application that impeded the residency matching process.

What was the loophole?
Did not take the Step 3.
Residency Match Application: Cycle 2
For this session, she had furnished her profile with the Step 3, and also received an interview through program outreach! But unfortunately, she did not match. This time it was confusing and difficult for her to get to the faulty spot.

What was the loophole?
Absence of fresh rotations and a lack of research.
After two continuous match application cycles she did not match, Blanka seeked mentorship for preparation from USMLE Sarthi.
Residency Match Application: Cycle 3
At Sarthi, we did an intensive profile review for Blanka and determined the loopholes. Our next task was to rectify these hindrances.

USMLE Sarthi provided solutions to mend the flaws in her profile that impeded Blanka from the matching.

Sarthi recommendations for Match cycle 3
Blanka showed hert interest in USMLESarthi and after her profile review we suggest two courses to her. Platinum Residency Match plans and Hackensack combo.

Match plan helped her at every step of her match journey, making  a impactful ERAS Cv and Personal Statement, Progran search, Interview prep, Mock Interview and Interview Prep etc.

To refresh and update her profile, we suggested her to do -

Fresh Rotations and research which would garner her relatively recent letters of recommendation(LOR).

Blanka did  6 months of combo plan "Hackensack Combo" with USMLE Sarthi including  1 telerotation, 2 online research projects and 3 on site rotations. This gave her profile a complete renewal and ready to match appearance.

The rotations got her fresh and effective letters of recommendation.

We recommended her and as most USMLE Sarthi students who seek guidance, she matched!
Blanka’s major takeaway from this rollercoaster USMLE journey which she wishes to share is SEEK HELP and GUIDANCE.

You might as well explore our extremely appraised Match Courses here.

Do not shy away from reaching out to sources of help and have a guide. Had she already known where her profile lacked in strength, it wouldn’t have taken her 3 attempts to fix it.

Her USMLE journey with Sarthi is motivational.
